Bauchi APC crisis: Toro LGA youths, women groups threaten defection over Neglect and marginalization

Amidst the ongoing primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) may be heading for a major political setback in Toro local government area of Bauchi state unless urgent reconciliation measures are taken, a coalition of youths and women in the area under the Leadership of Alhaji Safiyanu Muhammad Tama has warned.
Addressing a press conference at the Bauchi NUJ secretariat Friday, the group said the party’s grassroots base in Toro LGA is under strain due to feelings of abandonment, frustration, and exclusion.
The group while drawing the attention of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and other party leaders to the issue, described Toro local government area as one of the APC’s strongest and most reliable strongholds in Bauchi State.
The group, operating under the banner “Concerned Youths and Women of Toro LGA,” added that Toro ranks second only to Bauchi LGA in voting strength and grassroots mobilization capacity within the state.
“Over the years, the people of Toro LGA have consistently demonstrated uncommon loyalty, sacrifice, and dedication toward the success of APC at all levels,” the group stated.
“Despite this undeniable contribution and loyalty, it is heartbreaking that Toro LGA today appears politically abandoned, marginalized, and neglected within the APC structure in Bauchi State.” Tama further said.
The immediate trigger for the unrest, the group said, is the recent political developments surrounding the senatorial ticket for Bauchi South.
They cited the exit of Senator Shehu Buba from the contest and the denial of the ticket to Dr. Ibrahim Ali Usman as events that have created disappointment, frustration, and uncertainty among APC supporters in the zone.
The group highlighted Dr. Usman’s contributions to the party and the wider community, noting his involvement in youth and women empowerment, job creation, educational support, and humanitarian projects across the seven LGAs of Bauchi South.
They also claimed he had provided financial assistance to sustain APC activities at the grassroots level.
“If these growing concerns are not urgently addressed through reconciliation, inclusion, fairness, and proper stakeholder engagement, the APC risks weakening its political strength and unity in the area,” the group warned.
The group urged President Tinubu to intervene as the “father and leader of the APC family nationwide” to encourage unity, reconciliation, and inclusiveness in Toro LGA and Bauchi State.
They stressed that their loyalty to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda remains intact but said silence from the leadership could be interpreted as abandonment.
To the national and state APC leadership, the group recommended immediate reconciliation meetings with aggrieved stakeholders in Toro, direct engagement with Dr. Ibrahim Ali Usman, greater inclusion of Toro youths and women in decision-making, and stronger communication between the party hierarchy and the grassroots.
The group explained that their message was not a rebellion but a “sincere appeal from committed party loyalists, cautioning that continued neglect could push disappointed supporters toward opposition parties.
“We wish to state clearly that the youths and women of Toro LGA do not want to leave APC for any opposition party. APC remains our political home. However, loyalty must be protected with fairness, inclusion, and political recognition,” Alhaji Tama appealed.
