The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared Ahmed Aliyu Wadada winner of the party’s governorship primary election in Nasarawa State after polling 195,285 votes to defeat six other aspirants in the exercise conducted across the state.

Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Professor Theodore Bala Meyaki, announced the results at the end of the exercise, describing the primary as peaceful, transparent and largely successful despite isolated incidents recorded in a few wards.

According to the committee, accreditation and voting commenced early across the 147 wards of the state, while elections were conducted in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act and the APC guidelines for primary elections.

Declaring the results, Prof. Meyaki said Senator Wadada scored 195,285 votes to emerge victorious and was subsequently returned elected as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 general election in Nasarawa State.

Other aspirants and their scores include Mohammed Ademu Abubakar with 39,675 votes, Professor Mohammed Sani Haruna who polled 5,844 votes, Neman Hassan Mohammed with 863 votes, Zakar Lekwot Yakubu who scored 396 votes, while Fatima Abdullahi Ademu and Tanimu Adabson polled 136 and 64 votes respectively.

The committee noted that elections did not hold in a few wards, while one ward result was cancelled over alleged overvoting. However, the panel stated that the affected votes would not alter the overall outcome of the election, hence no rerun was ordered.

Prof. Meyaki commended party members for their orderly conduct throughout the exercise and praised security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Department of State Services (DSS), for ensuring adequate security during the primaries.

He also applauded the leadership of the APC in Nasarawa State under the chairmanship of Aliyu Bello as well as the support of Governor Abdullahi Sule for providing the necessary logistics and enabling environment for the conduct of the exercise.
Meanwhile, the committee also affirmed the emergence of candidates for the Nasarawa State House of Assembly elections following both consensus arrangements and direct primaries held across various constituencies in the state.

The APC primary election committee described the entire exercise as credible, transparent and reflective of democratic principles within the ruling party.
