Danladi Jatau, Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly and aspirant for the Karu/Keffi/Kokona Federal Constituency seat under the All Progressives Congress, has intensified consultations ahead of the party’s House of Representatives primary election scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2026.
The Speaker, during separate town hall meetings held across Karu, Keffi and Kokona Local Government Areas, appealed to party stakeholders, ward executives and members of the APC to support his aspiration and vote massively for him during the primary election.
Dr. Jatau said he possesses the experience, capacity and leadership qualities required to effectively represent the constituency at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, promising quality representation and accelerated development if elected.
According to him, his decision to contest followed persistent calls from constituents who believed in his leadership style and commitment to grassroots development.
The Speaker highlighted some of his achievements as a lawmaker and Speaker of the State Assembly, including empowerment programmes, employment opportunities, support for education, healthcare delivery, agriculture, water projects and infrastructural development.
He stated that his leadership had stabilised activities in the State Assembly and strengthened collaboration between the legislative and executive arms of government for the overall development of Nasarawa State.
Dr. Jatau also urged his supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid political attacks or insults against opponents, stressing the need for issue-based politics and peaceful coexistence.
The Speaker further called on residents of the federal constituency and APC supporters to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing Wadada as Governor Abdullahi Sule’s preferred successor.
As part of efforts to strengthen party activities at the grassroots, Dr. Jatau distributed over 32 motorcycles to APC ward chairmen across the three local government areas.
The rally also witnessed the defection of more than 100 members of the Social Democratic Party to the APC.
Leader of the defectors and Nasarawa West SDP Zonal Secretary, Mr. Yamusa Ishaya Audu, attributed their decision to the leadership qualities of Speaker Jatau and the developmental achievements of Governor Sule.
Earlier, the Speaker paid homage to traditional rulers in the three LGAs visited, including the Shehu Chindo Yamusa, who conferred on him the traditional title of “Ganuwa Karamin Keffi.”
Other royal fathers visited offered prayers and royal blessings for the Speaker’s political ambition.
