A growing call for micro-zoning within Nasarawa South Senatorial District has emerged, with a prominent stakeholder, Abubakar Lawal Suleiman Rimi Uku Lafia, urging political leaders to adopt a more inclusive approach in the distribution of elective positions.
Suleiman Rimi Uku Lafia, while commending the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, for upholding zoning principles, said micro-zoning has become necessary to deepen fairness and ensure equitable representation among all local government areas.
According to him, while zoning at the senatorial level has helped stabilize the political landscape, micro-zoning, rotating positions among local governments within the district, will further strengthen unity and give smaller or previously underrepresented areas a sense of belonging.
He specifically advocated that the Nasarawa South Senate seat be micro-zoned to Awe and Keana Local Government Areas, noting that both councils have yet to occupy the position despite years of democratic participation.
He explained that Obi Local Government has held the seat for 12 years, while Doma and Lafia have each produced senators for 8 years, making a strong case for balancing the equation.
“Micro-zoning is not just a political strategy; it is a moral obligation to ensure fairness, justice, and inclusiveness. Awe and Keana deserve their rightful turn,” he stated.
The stakeholder further called on political actors, party leaders, and stakeholders across the district to embrace the principle of micro-zoning as a pathway to sustainable peace, unity, and democratic consolidation.
He emphasized that maintaining harmony within the zone requires deliberate efforts to avoid marginalization and promote equal opportunities for all.
