NANS Congratulates Prof. Gwani, Tasks New AFUSTA Administration on Student Welfare

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Secretariat, has congratulated Professor Muhammad Gwani on his appointment as Acting Vice-Chancellor of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero (AFUSTA).
In a statement signed by the National Vice President, External Affairs of NANS, Comr. Sadiq SK Zango, the association described the appointment as an opportunity for institutional renewal, strengthening of governance and restoration of confidence within the university community.
NANS extended its best wishes to Professor Gwani as he assumes leadership of the institution, stressing that students of AFUSTA deserve an administration that listens, engages and responds effectively to their concerns.
The association said it expects the new administration to make student welfare, academic excellence, accountability and institutional justice key priorities during its tenure.
According to NANS, particular attention should be given to strengthening the relationship between the university management and the student community, as well as creating a more responsive framework for engagement with recognised student leadership structures, including the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Students’ Representative Assembly (SRA), KESSA and the wider Nigerian student movement.
The association also called for improved functioning of the university’s Students’ Affairs architecture, noting that the structure has an important role to play in mentoring student leaders, facilitating constructive dialogue, mediating disputes, protecting student welfare and promoting peaceful and constitutional student governance.
NANS emphasized that its expectations should not be interpreted as an adversarial posture towards the university management, but as part of its commitment to the stability, progress and welfare of Nigerian students.
NANS Pledges Cooperation
The students’ body pledged to work constructively with Professor Gwani’s administration on legitimate initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and overall experience of students at AFUSTA.
It said it would acknowledge areas where the institution performs well, advocate for students where support is required, engage constructively where dialogue is needed and demand accountability where necessary.
NANS maintained that the appointment of a new Acting Vice-Chancellor should go beyond a mere change in administrative leadership, stressing that it should usher in a new relationship between university management and students.
The association expressed readiness to engage the Acting Vice-Chancellor and his administration on issues affecting students and student leadership, while urging the new administration to uphold fairness, accessibility, transparency, institutional discipline and student-centred governance.
NANS further urged AFUSTA students and student leaders to support legitimate efforts aimed at restoring peace, strengthening governance and advancing the university’s academic and developmental mission.
The association wished Professor Muhammad Gwani a successful tenure and expressed hope that his administration would usher in renewed confidence, stronger institutions and greater opportunities for students.
