Promises improved working conditions for journalists, lauds media’s role in nation-building
By Our correspondent in Damaturu

A frontline governorship aspirant in Yobe State, Kashim Musa Tumsah (MFR), has pledged to address the persistent electricity challenges at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in the state.

Tumsah made the commitment on Thursday during a media parley at the NUJ Council Secretariat in Damaturu, where he was on a private visit.

The aspirant, who expressed concern over the lack of electricity at the facility, noted that the situation had negatively impacted journalists’ ability to effectively carry out their duties.

He was informed by the NUJ leadership that the alternative power supply, provided through a generator due to prolonged outages from the national grid, had become unsustainable.

In response, Tumsah assured journalists of his immediate intervention, stressing that efficient information dissemination depends heavily on reliable electricity to power essential tools and equipment.

He emphasized the critical role of the media in nation-building, noting that his visit to the Secretariat was to identify with journalists and acknowledge their strategic importance.

He further assured media practitioners of continued collaboration, describing them as key partners in progress.

Earlier, the NUJ Council Chairman, Comrade Rajab Mohammed, welcomed the aspirant and commended his recognition of the media’s relevance.

He described the visit as an honour and assured Tumsah of the council’s support in his publicity engagements.

Tumsah, who was in the state on a private visit, also received a warm reception from supporters who gathered in large numbers to welcome him upon arrival.

The development was contained in a press release signed by Abubakar Ahmed, Spokesman of the KMT Campaign Organization, dated April 17, 2027.
