IPOB Alleges Federal Propaganda Campaign Over Washington Speech on Nnamdi Kanu
Group Claims International Address Triggered Coordinated Response to Counter Global Attention
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Nigerian government of orchestrating a propaganda campaign aimed at undermining the global impact of a recent speech delivered in Washington, D.C., concerning the case of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group alleged that government-aligned media outlets were deployed to discredit claims made during the international address by Mike Arnold, which it described as “explosive” and damaging to Nigeria’s official narrative.
IPOB claimed that the speech highlighted what it termed the political undertones of Kanu’s prosecution, accusing the Nigerian state of deploying legal and media mechanisms to suppress dissenting voices.
The group further asserted that the Washington address attracted widespread international attention, reaching foreign governments, human rights organisations, and diplomatic communities.
According to the statement, the government’s response was swift, allegedly marked by emerging security narratives and reported military discoveries, which IPOB claims were strategically introduced to divert global attention from the speech.
Questioning the credibility of such reports, IPOB cited the absence of independent forensic verification, judicial oversight, and access for neutral observers, describing the developments as an attempt to manipulate public perception.
The group called on Nigerian authorities to ensure transparency by subjecting any available evidence to independent international scrutiny, including verification by neutral forensic experts and global observers.
Reaffirming its position, IPOB maintained that it would not be intimidated, insisting that the issues raised in Washington reflect what it described as the reality surrounding the case of its leader.
As of the time of filing this report, the Federal Government of Nigeria has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
