Benue APC Condemns Fresh Killings in Apa, Otukpo LGAs

By Aloysius Umalo, Makurdi

The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Comrade Dr. Austin Agada, has strongly condemned the recent wave of killings in Apa and Otukpo Local Government Areas of the state.

In a statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Daniel Morgan, the APC expressed deep sorrow over reports that no fewer than 14 persons, including a Mobile Police officer, lost their lives in renewed attacks on affected communities.

The party identified the impacted areas as Edikwu-Ankpali, Ikobi and Adija in Apa LGA, as well as Upu village in Otukpo LGA, noting that the attacks occurred over a three-day period from Friday to Sunday.

According to the statement, at least 13 civilians were killed in Apa LGA, while a police officer was murdered in a separate attack in Otukpo, where nine bodies have reportedly been recovered so far.

The APC described the killings as heinous and senseless, alleging that they were carried out by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen.

It noted that the incidents further highlight the deteriorating security situation in the state and underscore the urgent need for decisive and proactive measures to protect lives and property.

The party expressed solidarity with the affected communities and families, extending its condolences and prayers for the repose of the victims.

It also called on the Governor of Benue State, Chief Hyacinth Alia, to urgently visit the affected areas to commiserate with victims and provide immediate relief and support to those displaced and traumatized by the attacks.

The APC further reiterated its call for the establishment of military super camps in border communities across the state, describing the measure as critical to preventing further attacks and addressing the persistent security challenges.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and welfare of all Benue citizens, pledging to continue demanding accountability and effective action from those in positions of authority.
