APC Chieftain Faults Former PDP Governorship Candidate’s Defection, Backs Sule’s Senatorial Bid

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Hon. Ibrahim Mohammed Hamza, has described the reported return of former governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Dr. David Emmanuel Umbugadu, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a sign of political immaturity.
Hamza, who is a former spokesman of the PDP in the state, made the remark while reacting to reports of Umbugadu’s resignation from the APC, barely three weeks after defecting from the PDP.
According to reports circulating on social media, Umbugadu tendered his resignation letter to the APC chairman of Ikka Wangibi electoral ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area on Tuesday evening.
Reacting, Hamza stressed the importance of consistency in politics, noting that frequent defections undermine public confidence and political credibility.
He alleged that Umbugadu’s actions indicate a lack of courage to confront political challenges, describing the move as a desperate attempt to gain power without a clear vision for governance.
“Such inconsistency raises concerns about the capacity to provide stable and purposeful leadership,” Hamza stated, adding that policy inconsistency could hinder the development of Nasarawa State if such leadership traits persist.
Despite the development, the APC stalwart maintained that the ruling party remains formidable under the leadership of Governor Abdullahi Sule, expressing confidence in its ability to secure victories in future elections across the state.
He urged residents not to be swayed by what he described as “back-and-forth political movements,” insisting that the APC’s structure remains intact and strong.
Hamza further called on the people of Nasarawa North Senatorial District to rally support for Governor Abdullahi Sule’s anticipated senatorial ambition, noting that the governor’s achievements and experience position him for effective representation at the National Assembly.
He concluded that the governor’s track record in office has earned him the trust and support of the people, making him a strong contender for the Senate seat.
