Thousands of school-aged children across Yobe State have benefited from the distribution of free school bags, books and writing materials by prominent development advocate and governorship aspirant, Kashim Musa Tumsah.

The intervention, which covered selected schools across the 17 local government areas of the state, is aimed at strengthening basic education and improving learning conditions for pupils at the foundation level.

A total of 85 public primary schools—five from each local government area—were selected, with thousands of pupils receiving the educational support materials.

According to Tumsah, the initiative is designed not only to promote access to education but also to ease the financial burden on parents, noting that many families struggle to provide essential learning materials for their children.

The governorship aspirant, known for sustained humanitarian interventions across the state, also extended support during the just-concluded Ramadan, providing meals to Muslim faithful through designated centres and mobile feeding services from the first to the 30th day.

The feeding programme is estimated to have reached over 500,000 beneficiaries, including women, children, the less privileged, and pupils of Qur’anic schools across the three senatorial zones of the state.

In a similar development, Tumsah sponsored the 2026 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration fees for over 500 students drawn from 178 wards across the 17 local government areas.

The JAMB sponsorship programme, which has contributed to increased student participation and improved performance in the state, is complemented by tutorial sessions organized by qualified teachers to adequately prepare beneficiaries for the examination.

Some parents, including those whose children were not selected for the sponsorship, commended the initiative and expressed support for Tumsah’s candidacy and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The statement was signed by Abubakar Ahmed, Spokesman, KMT Campaign Organization.
