Nasarawa State House of Assembly Opens Ramadan Tafsir, Speaker Jatau Urges Support for Vulnerable

The Muslim community of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly has commenced its annual Ramadan Tafsir, with the Speaker, Dr. Danladi Jatau, and Islamic scholars urging believers to uphold almsgiving and extend support to vulnerable members of society during the holy month.
The 2026 Ramadan Tafsir was formally declared open on Monday at the Assembly Mosque within the legislative complex in Lafia, marking the continuation of a longstanding spiritual tradition aimed at strengthening faith and promoting adherence to Islamic teachings.
Declaring the Tafsir open, Dr. Jatau called on Muslims to use the Ramadan period as an opportunity to alleviate the suffering of the less privileged through acts of charity, compassion, and social responsibility.
Represented by the Director of Legislative Affairs, Alhaji Yusuf Kasim, the Speaker emphasized the spiritual significance of Ramadan, noting that fasting and prayers become more meaningful when accompanied by acts of kindness and almsgiving, as prescribed by Prophet Muhammad.
He observed that many individuals in society are currently facing economic and social challenges, stressing that assisting the vulnerable during Ramadan would not only provide relief but also foster unity and a sense of belonging.
The Speaker further noted that the Assembly’s annual Tafsir, which features Quranic recitation and commentary, serves as a reminder to believers of their religious obligations and helps deepen their spiritual consciousness in pursuit of divine blessings associated with fasting.
In his Quranic exposition, Islamic scholar, Mallam Mohammed Mohammed Sarki, urged Muslims to uphold justice, fairness, and transparency in all their dealings.
He cautioned against corruption and acts of impunity, emphasizing that adherence to righteous conduct would attract divine rewards in the hereafter.
Mallam Sarki explained that fasting during Ramadan should not be viewed as a burden, but rather as a spiritual opportunity to attain Allah’s mercy and grace through good deeds and sincere devotion.
He also warned against associating partners with Allah and encouraged believers to sustain the lessons learned during Ramadan beyond the fasting period to promote moral discipline and societal harmony.
Earlier, the Staff Officer of the House, Danladi Suleiman Gyabo, expressed appreciation to the Speaker, Islamic scholars, and Assembly staff for their participation in the Tafsir.
He encouraged Muslims to attend the daily sessions regularly and prayed for Allah’s blessings and rewards for all participants.
The Ramadan Tafsir at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly is expected to continue throughout the fasting period, providing spiritual guidance and reinforcing Islamic values among lawmakers, staff, and the wider Muslim community.
