The Nasarawa State Government has commenced the payment of over sixty million naira bursary allowances to law students undergoing studies at various campuses of the Nigerian Law Schools across the country.
Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board, Haj Sa'adatu Onyashama Yahya, disclosed this while addressing the beneficiaries at her office today in Lafia.
Addressing over a hundred beneficiaries of the 2024/2025 Bursary allowances currently undertaking the mandatory one-year law school programme in various law school campuses across the country, Haj. Sa'adatu Onyashama Yahya described the gesture by the state government as an unprecedented record-breaking move.
She said Governor Abdullahi Sule graciously approved the upward review of the amount from 300,000 to 600,000 to enable the beneficiaries to meet the current realities of law school education, urging them to make judicious use of the funds.
The Executive Secretary of the State Scholarship Board further challenged the law students to be good lawyers upon graduation by maintaining a high level of integrity and truthfulness in line with the Governor's principles of sincerity and accountability. She lauded Governor Abdullahi Sule for according top priority to the education of indigent students by always making funds available for the payment of bursary allowances on a yearly basis.
President of the Nasarawa State Students Association (NASSA), Comr. Ovey David Abimiku, lauded the Governor for his magnanimity to the students of Nasarawa State, describing his regular payment of bursary allowances as encouraging.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, President of the Nasarawa State Law Students Association, Halidu Adamu, appreciated the state government for the timely intervention, which will go a long way in facilitating their studies, and promised to justify the resources.
The beneficiaries are at various stages of their law school studies in law school campuses across the country, awaiting call to Bar to begin their legal practice.
