Doma Council Chairman Faces Backlash Over Alleged Disrespectful Religious Comment

Tension has heightened in Doma, following allegations that the Executive Chairman of the Local Government made a controversial statement perceived as disrespectful to the Muslim community during a recent APC local government consensus meeting.
The allegation, which has since gone viral on social media, claims that the chairman referenced the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) in a manner described by critics as derogatory and offensive.
Social Media Uproar
According to a statement issued by a constituent, Sadiq Ibrahim Aliyu, the alleged comment was made during the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus process at the local government level. The statement described the remark as “disrespectful, abusive and condemnable,” warning that it could undermine religious harmony in the area.
The constituent further argued that such utterances, if verified, contradict ongoing efforts by the Nasarawa State Government to sustain peaceful coexistence among diverse religious communities.
Demands for Investigation, Apology
The concerned constituent and other aggrieved individuals have called on the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to immediately suspend the chairman and launch a thorough investigation into the alleged incident.
They are also demanding a public apology in a video format addressed to the Muslim Ummah in Doma, Nasarawa State, and beyond.
Additionally, the statement threatened peaceful but firm actions, including writing to Juma’at Mosque Imams across the local government to publicly condemn the alleged remark, as well as possible mobilization of concerned faithful to press home their demands if no action is taken before the next Friday prayers.
Call for Calm.
As of press time, the council chairman had not issued any official response regarding the allegation.
Stakeholders have urged residents to remain calm and allow due process to take its course, emphasizing the need to preserve peace, unity, and religious harmony in Doma and across Nasarawa State.
Efforts to obtain official clarification from the local government authorities are ongoing.
