Information Officers in Nasarawa State on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, held a colourful and emotional farewell ceremony in honour of the retiring Director of Information, Danmusa Mohammed, celebrating his years of dedicated service to the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.
The ceremony, organised by Information Officers, was marked by gratitude, reflection and tributes, as colleagues praised the outgoing Director for his visionary leadership, mentorship culture and humanitarian disposition, which they said left a lasting impact on the information sector in the state.
Declaring the event open, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council, Mohammed Salihu Alkali, described Danmusa Mohammed as a transformational leader who repositioned the Ministry in line with global best practices.
He credited the retiring Director for his strategic contributions to the growth of the sector and acknowledged the guidance and support he received from him, which he said contributed to his emergence as NUJ Chairman. Alkali also commended Mohammed’s generosity and compassion, describing him as a role model to Information Officers across the state.
In his remarks, Mallam Shehu Ibrahim highlighted the remarkable transformation recorded in the Department of Information, particularly in the area of ICT development, attributing the progress to Danmusa Mohammed’s foresight and determination.
He recalled their cordial working relationship spanning over two decades and urged officers to emulate the Director’s discipline, humility and commitment to duty. He further appealed to the retiree to remain accessible to officers who may seek his guidance and mentorship.
The ceremony took an emotional turn when Mercy Tanze and Adama struggled to contain their emotions as they described Danmusa Mohammed as a father figure, mentor and moral compass whose counsel shaped their careers and personal lives.
They expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for his life and prayed for a peaceful and fulfilling retirement.
Other speakers, including Mr. Adigidzi, Ibrahim Dauda (B.Y), Mr. Joel, the Chairman of the Information Chapel Murtala Nuhu, and several others, also paid glowing tributes, praising his inclusive leadership style, commitment to staff welfare and consistent humanitarian gestures.
Responding, Danmusa Mohammed thanked the Information Officers for the honour and overwhelming show of love.
He urged them to uphold unity, harmony and professionalism, advising them to focus on his positive contributions rather than any shortcomings.
He also emphasized the values of compassion, sharing and brotherhood, encouraging officers to continue supporting one another even in difficult times.
The event ended on a celebratory note, with participants describing the occasion not as a farewell, but as a celebration of a life of service whose legacy will continue to inspire Information Officers in Nasarawa State.
