Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader among defectors as political realignment deepens in Kano
The Kano State House of Assembly has officially released the names of 22 lawmakers who have defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), declaring their total loyalty and support for the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Assembly’s Spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai.

 According to the statement, the lawmakers voluntarily withdrew from the NNPP as a demonstration of solidarity, loyalty and alignment with the policies and leadership direction of Governor Yusuf.
Shawai explained that the affected legislators have formally dropped their NNPP membership documents and are awaiting further directives, having unanimously endorsed the political stance taken by the governor.

The statement confirmed that the defection cuts across the leadership of the House, including principal officers, signalling a major political shift within the Kano State legislature.
The lawmakers who defected include:
Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore (Speaker) – Rogo
Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu Butu (Deputy Speaker) – Tofa/Rimin Gado
Hon. Lawan Hussaini (Majority Leader) – Dala
Hon. Garba Shehu Fammar (Deputy Majority Leader) – Kibiya
Hon. Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki (Chief Whip) – Kumbotso
Hon. Zakariyya Abdullahi Nuhu (Majority Whip) – Gabasawa
Hon. Lawal Tini – Ajingi
Hon. Musa Tahir Haruna – Albasu
Hon. Ali Lawan Alhassan – Bagwai/Shanono
Hon. Ali Muhammad Tiga – Bebeji
Hon. Hafiz Gambo – Bunkure
Hon. Rabiu Shuaibu – Dawakin Kudu
Hon. Tukur Mohammed – Fagge
Hon. Murtala Muhammad Kadage – Garko
Hon. Abdulmajid Isah Umar – Gwale
Hon. Engr. Ahmad Ibrahim – Karaye
Hon. Alhassan Zakari – Kura/Garun Malam
Hon. Suleiman Mukhtar Ishaq – Madobi
Hon. Abdulhamid Abdul – Minjibir

The Assembly noted that the decision by the lawmakers underscores their commitment to working closely with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration in advancing governance, stability and socio-economic development across Kano State.

Political observers say the mass defection represents a significant realignment that could reshape the balance of power within the state’s political landscape in the coming months.
