A total of sixty six witnesses are expected to testify at the Niger State Government Election Petition Tribunal against the election of Jonah Ishaya of the All Progressive Congress (APC) chairman ship election in Gurara Local Government Council.
Attahiru Musa Abubakar of the Social Democratic party (SDP) has dragged Jonah Ishaya,of the All Progressive Congress (APC), to the Election Petition Tribunal through his Counsel Abdurrahaman Ahmad Siraj Esq challenging the election of the respondent.
Joined in the petition included the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), and the All Progressive Congress (APC)
The petitioner alleged that the election of the respondent during the conduct of the 1st November 2025, Local Government Election in Niger was marred with irregularities and non-compliance with the provisions of the electoral act.
He further alleged in his petition that Jonah Ishaya was not qualified to contest the election into the office of Gurara Local Government Council as at the time the election was conducted.
He prayed the three member tribunal headed by Chief Magistrate Maryam King, to nulify the election and disqualify the respondent and order the conduct of fresh election in Gurara Local Government Council without further delay.
As at Monday the 5th, January 2026, commencement of hearing,of the Tribunal, about ten witnesses testified against Jonah Ishaya through cross examination and re- examination by both counsels of the respondents which include the lead counsel to the Tribunal Mallam Usman Nuraini Baba the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the office of the Attorney General of Niger State.
However, only three petitions were filed at the Zone B’ election petition tribunal which include Gurara, Suleja and Paiko. In Zone C’ one petition from Rijau Local Government. Alhaji Umar Buda of the People Democratic party (PDP) against Yakubu Abdullahi Duku of the All Progressive Congress (APC),
While in A’ Senatorial districts no election was filed against any of the elected council chairmen in the November 1st election in the zone.
