The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Benue State Command, has arraigned 60 motorists before a mobile court in Makurdi for various traffic offences, as part of intensified efforts to reduce road crashes during the ember months.
The Benue State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr. Kehinde Dahunsi, disclosed this on Wednesday while speaking with journalists after monitoring the exercise, code-named Operation Zero.
According to him, out of the 60 motorists arraigned, 56 were convicted, while four were discharged by the trial Magistrate, Ngutor Shabu.
Dahunsi explained that the mobile court exercise, which is usually conducted during the ember months, was designed to curb the excesses of motorists and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations.
He noted that the Operation Zero campaign commenced nationwide on December 15, 2025, and is expected to end on January 15, 2026.
The sector commander stated that the major focus of the operation was to address the menace of vehicle overloading and enforce the installation and use of speed-limiting devices.
“We want vehicles to be installed with speed-limiting devices to curtail the rate of crashes on our roads,” Dahunsi said.
He expressed concern over the high incidence of vehicle overloading, describing it as a major contributor to road traffic crashes.
“The level of overloading we are witnessing is alarming, and we are determined to curb it in order to reduce crashes, which are often caused by this violation,” he added.
Dahunsi further assured that the FRSC would continue to monitor and prosecute other traffic offences, reiterating the Corps’ commitment to ensuring safer roads for motorists and other road users across Benue State.
