The First Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, on Tuesday distributed Christmas welfare packages to Christian women from various groups, organisations, unions, and security agencies to support their festive celebrations.
The ceremony, held at the Government House in Gusau, brought together beneficiaries drawn from diverse communities and professional bodies.
In her remarks, the First Lady expressed appreciation for the continued support Christians in the state have shown to the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal.
She noted that such unity strengthens government efforts to improve citizens’ wellbeing, describing women as pillars of peace, stability, and development.
“The strength of Zamfara lies in the resilience and commitment of its women.
They are the backbone of our society, and their contributions continue to drive the growth and progress of our state,” she said.
The welfare packages distributed included bags of rice, cash assistance, pasta, sugar, cooking oil, and other essential items aimed at easing the burden of families during the festive season.
Beneficiaries were drawn from groups including CAN, Yoruba and Igbo communities, Gidan Zala, non-indigenes, and security agencies such as the Army, Immigration, Customs, Police, Civil Defence, DSS, FRSC, NDLEA, Correctional Service, Fire Service, and others. Market women, teachers, nurses, doctors, youth groups, NYSC members, scouts, vendors, media houses, and banks were also represented.
Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal said the gesture was designed to ensure women celebrated Christmas with comfort and dignity.
She encouraged equitable distribution of the items within groups, stressing that the initiative promotes unity, compassion, and collective wellbeing.
“I pray that this season brings peace, blessings, and prosperity to every household. May we continue to work together to build a harmonious and prosperous Zamfara State,” she added.
The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to programmes that uplift women, strengthen families, and enhance community development.
She commended women leaders, government officials, and organisational representatives for their collaboration and dedication.
Representatives of the beneficiaries, including Mrs. Martila Udowella of CAN, Lolo Ugueze Theresa Obijiaku of the Igbo Community, and Mrs.
Esther Ariyo of the Yoruba Women Community, expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her generosity and assured continued support for the state government.
