The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued official expulsion certificates to several top chieftains, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, following the ratification of their removal at the party’s national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The certificates were formally presented during a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, where Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum handed over the party’s leadership to Senator Kabiru Turaki.

Senator Turaki explained that the certificates were issued to clearly communicate the status of the expelled members in line with Nigerian laws on political party membership.

“Now that their expulsions have been confirmed by the National Convention, we have issued these certificates so they can present proof to any political party that they are no longer members of the PDP,” Turaki said.

Individuals affected include Nyesom Wike, Ayodele Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Umaru Bature, Kamarudeen Ajibade (SAN), Abdurahman Muhammad, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah Nnanna, George Turna, and Chief Dan Orbih.

Turaki added that the certification would also be communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and other relevant institutions. He cautioned that anyone engaging the expelled members politically does so “at their own risk.”

He emphasized that the party has removed “elements disrupting its activities” and is now focused on rebuilding ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, the development has intensified the internal crisis within the party. A faction loyal to Wike—led by former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and factional Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman—has rejected the Ibadan convention as “illegitimate.”

This faction held a parallel NWC meeting on November 18 in Abuja, where it announced the expulsion of several high-ranking figures, including Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), former BOT Chairman Adolphus Wabara, Senator Kabiru Turaki, and Chief Bode George.

The PDP remains deeply divided as both factions continue to assert legitimacy over the party’s leadership and direction.
