The Al-Muhibbah Foundation, led by the Wife of the Bauchi State Governor, Hajiya Aisha Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad, has launched another wave of empowerment, targeting persons with disabilities (PWDs) and vulnerable households trapped in the cycle of poverty.
The initiative, carried out in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), took place in Yelwa Duguri, Alkaleri Local Government Area, and aimed to equip beneficiaries with practical skills that promote self-reliance and economic independence.
Represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Hajiya Asmau Auwal Jatau, Hajiya Aisha reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind in the journey toward inclusive development. She emphasized that the empowerment program is not a handout, but a lifeline of opportunity designed to help participants start their own businesses and sustain their families.
“We are determined to uplift our brothers and sisters living with disabilities by giving them the tools to thrive,” she said. “This is how we build a society where everyone has a fair chance.”
The event empowered 120 beneficiaries, 50 supported by UNFPA and 70 by the Al-Muhibbah Foundation who were trained in cosmetology, akara (beans cake) production, soya beans cake making, and groundnut oil processing. Each participant received a complete starter kit to launch their small business.
The Foundation’s Coordinator, Hajiya Zara’u Baba, encouraged beneficiaries to use their new skills wisely, stressing that economic empowerment is the first step toward dignity and independence.
UNFPA’s representatives, Deborah Tabara and Olawummi Laolu Akande, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to inclusive development, pledging continued support to reach even the most remote communities.
Traditional leaders and government officials, including Mrs. Brisca Jerome, Mrs. Lydia Shehu, and Maijidda Hassan Musa, commended the initiative and charged beneficiaries to become ambassadors of change within their communities.
Grateful beneficiaries described the empowerment as transformational, saying it marked the beginning of financial freedom for them and their families.
With initiatives like this, the Al-Muhibbah Foundation and UNFPA are not just distributing equipment, but they are building lives, restoring dignity, and breaking the chains of poverty in Bauchi State.
