The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has acknowledged Nigeria’s growth and resilience in the past 65 years of independence, assuring citizens of more robust legislation aimed at improving their wellbeing.
Hon. Jonah Ali Dizaho, Chairman, House Committee on Information and member representing Karu/Gitata constituency, made this known while addressing newsmen in Lafia as Nigeria marks 65 years of nationhood and Nasarawa State celebrates 29 years of creation.
Dizaho noted that despite daunting security and socio-economic challenges, the nation has continued to record giant strides, stressing that both past and present leaders have contributed significantly to infrastructural development, policies, and programmes that directly impact citizens.
“In 1960 a child was born, and 65 years after, that child has grown. Nigeria has reached significant milestones, and Nasarawa State too is experiencing steady progress and development,” he said.
The lawmaker commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for his developmental achievements, citing the recently commissioned Lafia flyover and the modern State Secretariat as examples of transformative projects.
“His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has executed laudable projects across the state. We are proud of his leadership and the direction he is taking Nasarawa,” he stated.
Addressing critics, Dizaho dismissed insinuations that the 7th Assembly is a “rubber stamp” of the Executive arm.
“There will be no development if the legislature and executive are at loggerheads.
What people call ‘cordial relationship’ is actually synergy for progress. Every bill and resolution we pass is geared toward improving the lives of our people, and the Executive has been implementing them,” he explained.
The lawmaker assured that the Assembly remains committed to enacting laws and making resolutions that will accelerate growth in the state.
He urged citizens to embrace peace and unity for sustainable development.
“Peace is paramount. I call on the people of Nasarawa and Nigerians at large to continue to live in unity and harmony irrespective of affiliations.
Criticism of the House should be constructive and objective, as we remain focused on delivering quality legislation for the people,” he added.
