In a renewed effort to advance health system reforms and improve Primary Health Care (PHC) delivery across Nigeria, key representatives from the Federal and State Governments have joined media executives in a high-level dialogue aimed at deepening collaboration between the health sector and the media.
The meeting, tagged Health Media Dialogue, served as a strategic platform to bridge communication gaps between policymakers and the media while fostering synergy for enhanced public health advocacy and improved service delivery.
The dialogue centered on developing practical strategies to boost healthcare financing, transparency, and accountability in line with national priorities and global health targets.
Speaking at the event, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to transforming the nation’s health system.
He noted that, over the past two years, government efforts toward a national consensus on development priorities have begun to yield tangible results in the health sector.
Also present at the dialogue were the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, and the Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, who both endorsed the resolutions reached at the meeting.
They pledged continued intergovernmental cooperation to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare services nationwide.
In his remarks, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf reiterated Kano State’s determination to strengthen PHC services under the leadership of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He highlighted the State Government’s ongoing investments in the rehabilitation of healthcare facilities, recruitment and training of personnel, and expansion of essential services, particularly for women and children.
Dr. Yusuf also noted significant progress in routine immunization, maternal and child health, and disease prevention programs, adding that these align with the Federal Government’s health reform agenda and the goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
At the end of the dialogue, participants reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining media-health sector collaboration as a key driver of policy advocacy, transparency, and public engagement.
They resolved to work together to amplify health communication, strengthen accountability mechanisms, and promote better health outcomes for all Nigerians.
