The Chief Imam of Mallam Sarki Juma’at Mosque, Ustaz Mohammed Mohammed Sarki, has alerted members of the public to be vigilant against fraudsters who hacked his mobile phone line and have been attempting to defraud his close associates.
Speaking to newsmen, Ustaz Sarki disclosed that the fraudsters have already succeeded in swindling an unsuspecting victim of the sum of ₦200,000. According to him, the criminals impersonated him by placing calls and sending text messages to his contacts, pretending to be in urgent need of financial assistance.
He narrated an instance where one of his friends from Kano received a suspicious call and wisely reached out to him for verification. “I told him clearly that I didn’t send anyone to him,” the Imam stated.
The cleric further explained that the fraudsters also sent deceptive text messages containing six-digit codes, urging people to call a specific number to confirm transactions. He warned the public not to fall victim to such schemes.
“I want everyone to know that I am just an Islamic preacher.
I don’t have the kind of money these criminals are trying to collect in my name. Please, be very careful,” he cautioned.
Ustaz Sarki appealed to the public to disregard any calls or messages purportedly coming from his phone number requesting financial support or codes, describing them as acts of fraud.
