The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, flagged off the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Women Economic Empowerment Programme in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation at the Aliyu Akwe Banquet Hall in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

Senator Tinubu, who was ably represented by Mrs. Tosin Akabe, wife of the Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, said the programme was designed to strengthen the entrepreneurial spirit of women traders and small-scale business owners across the country.
She explained that the initiative was not a loan but a grant to help beneficiaries recapitalize and expand their businesses.

“When you empower a woman, you empower a household, a community, and indeed a nation,” she emphasized.

The First Lady revealed that the Tony Elumelu Foundation had donated ₦1 billion to the Renewed Hope Initiative to support 18,500 women nationwide. Under the scheme, 500 women from each of the 36 states and the FCT will receive ₦50,000 each to grow their businesses.
At the event in Lafia, some of the pre-selected 500 beneficiaries from Nasarawa State received their ₦50,000 grants. Senator Tinubu, through her representative, expressed gratitude to the Tony Elumelu Foundation for its generosity and called on other well-meaning Nigerians to support women’s economic empowerment.

The Nasarawa State First Lady, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, also commended Senator Tinubu for prioritizing women’s empowerment and assured that Nasarawa women would maximize the opportunity to uplift their families and communities.
The event marked the official commencement of the Renewed Hope Initiative/Tony Elumelu Foundation Women Economic Empowerment Programme in Nasarawa State.
