The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that out of 171 associations seeking registration as political parties, only 14 met the initial constitutional and electoral requirements, while 157 applications — including that of the Youth party “Access” — were declined.
In a copy made available to newsmen, INEC disclosed that it will meet with the interim leaders of the 14 approved associations on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Abuja, after which a physical verification exercise will be carried out to confirm all submitted documents.
The commission stressed that the registration of political parties is a continuous process and remains open to any association that meets the stipulated legal conditions.
