The immediate past governor of Benue, Samuel Ortom, has advised Benue people to always pray for President Bola Tinubu, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, Gov. Hyacinth Alia, traditional rulers and all those who are in authority.
Ortom gave the advice on Sunday when members of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwande and Ushongo local governments paid him a solidarity visit in Makurdi.
The former governor explained that the people holding public offices need prayers from their subjects to enable them succeed because if they make a mistake it would affect everybody regardless of political affiliations.
He further admonished young people against insulting their leaders, saying that the ugly trend was not the best way to go.
He described Akume as a great politician, adding that he was the leader of Benue politics across party lines.
"Akume made it possible for Sen. Gabriel Suswam to govern the state, followed by him and now Alia. He has helped me a great deal. I have benefitted from him a lot," Ortom said.
He further appreciated both the people of Kwande and Ushongo local governments for their unity despite their political leanings, stating that such was good for the society because it would allow peace a chance.
He disclosed that he would not impose candidates on the people but allow the will of the people to be done because they know their children better and I would support the aspiration of someone who would be the people's choice..
He encouraged them to pursue their aspirations with vigour but surrender them to God because he knows everything from the beginning to the end, emphasising that everything comes from God.
He said that according to John 3.17 man cannot receive anything except it was given to him from God.
Not vying for any political position in 2027,
Earlier, leader of the delegation from Kwande local government Mr Vincent Uji, appreciated Ortom for recognising and working with Akume as the leader of Benue politics.
He reiterated that Akume was the leader of Benue politics, so all politicians in the state should queue behind and rally round him.
Uji pointed out that they know that Akume and Ortom were the ones that would help them to get what was rightfully theirs.
He stated that they had united in order to fight a common cause despite being members of different political parties, stressing that they want other intermediate areas to learn from them how to play politics devoid of rancour and acrimony.
Meanwhile, the leader of the delegation from Ushongo local government, Mr Atsaga Anemba, said that it was the desire of the two political parties in both local governments that peace should spread to the entire state and country.
