Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has launched a scathing attack on Nigeria’s electoral and judicial institutions, accusing them of being riddled with corruption and manipulation.
In his newly released book, “Nigeria: Past and Future,” Obasanjo alleged that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has “corrupted the nation’s electoral system since 2015,” arguing that election outcomes are now determined more by court judgments than by the will of the people.
He further claimed that the judiciary has degenerated into “a court of corruption rather than a court of justice,” citing examples of election tribunal judges who allegedly acquired multiple properties through bribes.
The former President also accused former President Muhammadu Buhari of colluding with judges to influence election results through financial inducements and political appointments.
According to Obasanjo, Nigeria’s current electoral and judicial systems have become “a tragedy that no longer serves the ordinary citizens.”
