Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State in North Central Nigeria has officially presented improved Tenera oil palm seedlings to journalists, emphasizing the economic benefits of the Benue Alia Palm Project.
The presentation took place at the Nigeria Union of Journalists Congress in Makurdi, during the combined launch of the improved Tenera oil palm seedlings and expanded monthly Congress of the Union.
Governor Alia pledged support for the NUJ and announced interventions including the settlement of check off and professional dues, renovation of NUJ House, and provision of an 18 seater utility bus.
The Governor highlighted the importance of sustainable agriculture and economic growth, stating that the seedlings will create jobs, boost industrial growth, and strengthen household incomes.
He urged journalists to uphold truth and objectivity in their reporting, while also welcoming constructive criticism.
Earlier, the State Chairman of NUJ, Mr. Bemdoo Ugber, commended the Governor for the initiative and appealed for further support in renovating NUJ House and providing official vehicles.
The Permanent Secretary of Agriculture praised the project as a pathway to economic independence for Benue State, noting that it has the potential to reduce poverty and position the state as a leading hub for palm oil production.
He commended the Governor for the various interventions and the immediate donation of the 18 seater utility bus to members of the Benue State Council of the Union.
