The Honorable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Nasarawa State, Barr. Isaac Danladi, has described the recent conviction and sentencing of Mr. Oluwatimilehin Ajayi for murder as a landmark moment in the state’s judicial history.
He made the remarks during a live appearance on ADBN Television, where he gave detailed insights into the judgment and its implications for justice delivery in the state.
The High Court of Justice, presided over by Justice Simon Aboki of High Court No. 2 in Lafia, had on Wednesday, June 26, 2025, found Mr. Ajayi guilty of the brutal murder and dismemberment of Salome Alejo Adaydu, a crime committed in Opebu.
The court convicted Ajayi under Section 221 of the Penal Code and sentenced him to death by hanging, having found him guilty on all charges.
Barr. Danladi noted that the case represents not only a judicial victory but also a moral triumph for justice and equity in the state.
“Justice has not only been done but has manifestly been seen to be done. This is a clear signal that the law is blind to status or influence. What matters is truth and accountability,” he stated during the ADBN TV interview.
He further emphasized the rigorous legal process that led to the conviction, noting that the trial was thorough and evidence-based, making it a strong case study in criminal justice delivery.
“This judgment gives renewed hope to the common man. It is a reminder that justice, equity, and good conscience still form the bedrock of our legal system,” he added.
Addressing the next legal steps, the Attorney General confirmed that the Ministry of Justice is in the process of compiling all relevant documents to brief the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, for assent to enable the lawful execution of the sentence.
“His Excellency is a firm believer in justice and rule of law. Once we present the facts, we believe he will act appropriately in line with legal and moral expectations,” Barr. Danladi assured.
While the convict retains a 90-day window to appeal the judgment, the state government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that court rulings are respected and executed in accordance with the law.
The landmark ruling is being hailed as a strong reaffirmation of the independence of the judiciary and the administration’s resolve to protect lives and uphold justice in Nasarawa State.
