In a surprising political development, former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Suleiman Asonya Adokwe, has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending over two decades of loyal service and affiliation.
In a resignation letter dated July 3, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Agwatashi Ward, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Adokwe stated that his decision to leave the party was based on personal grounds.
“While I appreciate the opportunities that my association with the PDP afforded me to serve the party and my people in various capacities since 1999, my decision to resign is based largely on personal grounds,” the former senator wrote.
Senator Adokwe, who hails from Obi LGA and holds the traditional title of Wakilin Agwatashi, played a prominent role in the party at both the state and national levels.
He served with distinction as a Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, and was known for his legislative diligence, grassroots engagement, and firm loyalty to the PDP over the years.
His resignation has sparked a wave of political speculation within and beyond Nasarawa State, particularly with the 2027 election season drawing closer. Although the letter did not indicate his next political move, many observers believe Adokwe’s exit could realign forces within the state's political landscape.
As of press time, the PDP is yet to issue an official response to the development.
