The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lafia Branch, has honoured some of its distinguished members and top government officials during a grand dinner night held in the state capital, marking the climax of the association’s 25th Annual Law Week celebration.
The event, which brought together legal luminaries, judges, lawmakers, and senior members of the Bar and Bench, served as a moment of reflection and recognition of excellence in legal practice and governance.
Among the honorees were the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Barr. Labaran Magaji, PhD, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Isaac Danladi, the NJSC Secretary, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, and the Commissioner for Lands.
Speaking on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Sule, who was represented by the Attorney General, Barr. Isaac Danladi, the state government commended the NBA Lafia Branch for organizing a successful and impactful Law Week, culminating in a befitting dinner. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening the legal profession and enhancing the rule of law in Nasarawa State.
"The harmonious relationship between the Bar, Bench, and security agencies has continued to shape our justice delivery system. His Excellency has always prioritized professionalism and respect for the legal community. This recognition tonight is a testament to that shared vision," Barr. Danladi stated.
In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Labaran Magaji, expressed deep humility and appreciation for the recognition. He paid tribute to senior colleagues and mentors who have guided his journey and called on young lawyers to remain committed to ethics, hard work, and dedication.
"I’m overwhelmed by this honor. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the NBA Lafia Branch and dedicate this award to my mentors and the younger generation of lawyers looking up to us. Let’s continue to uphold the principles of justice and integrity,” Magaji said.
Also delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the judiciary, Justice Simon Aboki, who represented the State Chief Judge, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu, lauded the NBA Lafia Branch for sustaining the tradition of excellence and inclusiveness in its activities.
In his keynote address, the Chairman of the NBA Lafia Branch, Barr. Alaku Dennis Dauda, described the Law Week as a success, having created a platform for robust engagement, professional development, and unity among members of the legal profession and other stakeholders in the justice sector.
“This year’s theme emphasized the need for mutual respect and synergy among the Bar, Bench, and security agencies. We must continue to build bridges and foster collaboration in the interest of justice and public trust,” Dauda said.
The dinner night, attended by several dignitaries, judges, and senior lawyers, also featured the presentation of awards to individuals who have distinguished themselves through their professional conduct, contributions to legal development, and support for the Bar.
