A concerned group in Lafia has raised serious concerns over an alleged plan to dismiss newly recruited staff in three state-owned tertiary institutions, calling on Governor Abdullahi Sule to intervene and safeguard their employment.
The affected institutions include Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology Lafia, and the College of Education Akwanga.
The group linked the planned disengagement to the implementation of the new minimum wage approved by Governor Sule for workers across Nasarawa State.
They alleged that despite the governor’s directive, staff in these tertiary institutions are yet to benefit from the new wage structure.
In a passionate appeal, the group condemned the looming dismissal as unfair, especially for lafia local government staff who were duly recruited and have been contributing to the development of education in the state.
Furthermore, the group called on Governor Sule to ensure that the appointments of the affected staff, which have been in effect since 2023, are fully regularized and made permanent.
They stressed that formalizing the employment status of these staff members would not only boost morale but also reinforce the administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector.
They urged the state government to take immediate steps to prevent job losses and guarantee fair treatment for all workers, especially those in the state’s tertiary institutions.
