Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria's delegation to the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York this year, as President Bola Tinubu has decided not to attend the event.

The President, who recently returned from trips to China and the United Kingdom, has chosen to focus on pressing domestic issues, particularly the recent devastating flooding in various parts of the country.

Vice President Shettima will represent Nigeria during the General Debate and deliver the nation's statement.

He will also participate in key sideline events and hold bilateral meetings on behalf of the country.

The General Debate, themed *“Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for present and future generations,”* is scheduled to take place from Tuesday, September 24, through Saturday, September 28, 2024.

This was disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
