The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denounced the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu, accusing them of imposing harsh economic conditions on Nigerians with the latest fuel price hike.
On Tuesday, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) raised fuel prices to ₦885 per litre across its filling stations.
This increase came despite earlier denials by the federal government that it authorized a fresh hike in petrol prices.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the PDP's National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the opposition party expressed strong disapproval of the fuel price adjustment, describing it as an "insult to the sensibility and wellbeing of Nigerians."
The PDP argued that the decision highlights the APC's lack of concern for the welfare of citizens, further exacerbating the nation's economic struggles.
The PDP rejected the price hike and demanded an immediate reversal, urging the government to reconsider its policies that, they claim, have worsened the living conditions of millions of Nigerians.
Ologunagba's statement also criticized the management of the petroleum sector under President Tinubu, accusing the government of pushing Nigerians into deeper poverty with reckless and insensitive policies.
The opposition highlighted the impact of the fuel price hike on inflation, unemployment, and the overall cost of living, while asserting that, with proper management, fuel prices should not exceed ₦250 per litre.
The PDP called on President Tinubu to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians and reverse the current economic trajectory.
