The Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Silas Agara, has announced an ambitious plan to tackle unemployment by equipping over 5,000 youths with entrepreneurial skills, marking a significant shift away from traditional employment pathways.
Agara underscored the need to nurture a generation that is not only prepared for white-collar jobs but also empowered to embark on entrepreneurial ventures.
Speaking at a meeting with NDE's executive management and coordinators at the NDE Model Skills Acquisition Center in Bwari, Abuja, Agara laid out his vision to reshape the job market.
By focusing on equipping the youth with essential skills, he believes this initiative will not only combat unemployment but also inspire self-reliance.
“We must evolve with the job market and give our youth the resources to thrive in whichever path they choose,” Agara stated.
The meeting concentrated on innovative strategies, resource distribution, and cooperative efforts, which Agara and his team see as critical to the successful implementation of NDE's job creation programs.
Discussions also touched on forming partnerships with local businesses and educational institutions to develop industry-relevant curricula that prepare participants for real-world challenges.
The upcoming programs will span various sectors, including agriculture, entrepreneurship, ICT, and skills acquisition, with the goal of diversifying employment opportunities and ensuring that every young person can find their place in the evolving job market.
Agara also emphasized the role of community engagement in the success of these initiatives, urging local leaders to collaborate in ensuring that the skills acquired have lasting impact.
