Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Isa Usman, who has been operating as a quack medical doctor in Iyayi Village, Kadarko district of Keana LGA.
The suspect was taken into custody by police operatives from the Kadarko Division on the evening of September 3, 2024, at approximately 21:08 hours, after allegedly causing the death of a patient by administering a harmful injection.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Isa Usman, who possesses only a primary school leaving certificate, had been posing as a medical professional.
Hailing from Pindi village in Akko LGA of Gombe State, the suspect claimed to have received medical training at Asibitin Yusuf in Agyaragu, Obi LGA of Nasarawa State.
The investigation further uncovered that Usman had been treating his victim, identified as Zaki Yaka Ajohol, for typhoid by administering procaine injections over three days. On the fourth day, after administering the same injection, Ajohol collapsed and became unconscious.
He was rushed to a primary health care center in Akeleku, where he was pronounced dead.
The police recovered various drugs and medical implements from the suspect, which are now in custody as evidence.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation and prosecution.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges in combating medical malpractice and ensuring the safety of citizens in the state.
