In a groundbreaking move, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has announced a monthly financial support plan for students in the state. Undergraduates will receive ₦20,000, while postgraduate students and those studying professional courses such as medicine, law, engineering, and agriculture will receive ₦30,000.
This was disclosed by Governor Eno at the Youths Appreciation Rally held at the Uyo Township Stadium.
Governor Eno emphasized that the bursary increment, effective from this academic session, is part of his administration's broader commitment to youth empowerment and education.
"We have increased the bursary from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 for all undergraduates, and from ₦10,000 to ₦30,000 for professional students and postgraduates," he said.
In addition to this, the Governor highlighted ongoing initiatives to train youths in various sectors. Currently, 21 youths are being trained in engineering through a partnership with Ethiopian Airlines in Addis Ababa, and over 150 youths have been trained in agriculture to help develop model farms across the state.
Governor Eno assured that the state government would provide these youths with seedlings and would also be the primary buyer of the harvested crops, supporting their journey towards becoming successful agripreneurs.
