The Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has urged youths in Delta State to leverage the various vocational training, skills acquisition, and agricultural programmes rolled out by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori under his MORE agenda.
Dr. Oghenesivbe made the appeal in Asaba on Friday, following the arrest and parade of over 123 suspected fraudsters by the Ekpan division of the State Police Command.
The suspects were allegedly involved in criminal activities at a location known as Hustlers Kingdom (HK).
He commended the police for their commitment to ensuring a crime-free Delta, noting that the command’s strategies are yielding results.
Dr. Oghenesivbe highlighted that Governor Oborevwori’s administration is actively creating wealth for youths and women in Delta State, citing the recent empowerment of 6,020 farmers, including young people and women across the state's three senatorial districts, under the D-CARES partnership programme.
He urged youths to shun illegal activities like advance fee fraud (commonly known as Yahoo Yahoo), kidnapping, and prostitution, and instead, take advantage of the empowerment initiatives provided by the State Bureau for Job and Wealth Creation.
"Governor Oborevwori is tirelessly working to generate jobs and wealth for the people, particularly the youths and women, through his socio-economic remodelling strategies in the MORE agenda,” Oghenesivbe said.
He also commended the Commissioner of Police and officers for their diligence and patriotism in combating crime, stressing that Delta State will never be a haven for criminals.
Additionally, the governor has approved the "Drug-Free Delta" campaign to further address social vices linked to substance abuse.
Dr. Oghenesivbe concluded by urging the youths to embrace legitimate business opportunities and align themselves with high moral standards to achieve their potential in a reformed Delta State.
