President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to fully implementing local government financial autonomy in Nigeria. Speaking through his Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Salma Ibrahim Anas, President Tinubu emphasized that no effort will be spared in ensuring that local governments function effectively as the true government at the grassroots.
The President's remarks were delivered during the opening of a stakeholders' technical workshop on the revitalization and operationalization of primary healthcare in Nigeria.
The workshop, held in Abuja on Wednesday, was organized by the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in collaboration with various development partners.
During the event, ALGON National President Aminu Mu'azu Maifata described the workshop as a pivotal step towards achieving universal and accessible healthcare services at the grassroots level.
He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his continued support in realizing local government financial autonomy and highlighted the importance of community engagement and the development of health communication offices in every local government area.
Maifata further advocated for the creation of health incubation centers and the standardization of electronic medical records to enhance the performance of frontline healthcare services.
He assured that this workshop is one of many initiatives by ALGON aimed at complementing the President's efforts towards local government financial autonomy.
Representatives from key development partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO), Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), and various federal ministries, all expressed their support for ALGON's primary healthcare revitalization program across Nigeria's 774 local government areas.
