In a recent press release, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Ahmed, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Interior, has called for an immediate suspension of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest.
He urged Nigerian youths to engage in dialogue with the government to foster economic improvement and national development.
Ahmed’s appeal, delivered through a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Sardauna Francis, comes in response to incidents of looting and destruction of lives and properties.
He emphasized that while the protestors' voices have been heard and measures are being taken by both state and federal governments, the protest has unfortunately been hijacked by hoodlums, exacerbating the nation's challenges.
The lawmaker highlighted the right to peaceful protest as enshrined in Section 40 of the Nigerian Constitution but stressed that the ongoing violence undermines national growth and development.
He called for an end to the protest to prevent further hijacking by criminal elements and to maintain relative peace in the country.
