The Federal Government has stepped in to mediate a conflict between two mining companies in Nasarawa State, with the aim of achieving a sustainable resolution.
The intervention, led by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, has been lauded by Governor Abdullahi Sule, who expressed his appreciation during a meeting at the Government House in Lafia.
Governor Sule praised the Minister's efforts, noting that the resolution of the conflict is expected to bring significant benefits to the state and the host communities.
The Governor's remarks came as Nasarawa State prepares to host the sixth edition of the National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources Development, an event that serves as a consultative platform for stakeholders to harmonize ideas and formulate policies for the growth of the mining sector.
The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, represented by Engineer Obadiah Nkom, Director General of the Mining Cadastral Office, highlighted the choice of Nasarawa State for the council meeting.
He attributed this to Governor Sule's commitment and contributions to the development of the mining sector, including generating over one billion naira in revenue for the nation and addressing security issues that could lead to conflicts.
Governor Sule emphasized that the upcoming council meeting is a milestone in the state's efforts to diversify its revenue sources, which will translate into greater economic benefits for both Nasarawa State and the country as a whole.
