In a significant move towards improving football standards, the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) has announced that only coaches certified by the Nigeria Institute for Sports (NIS) will be licensed in Lagos. This decision follows an MOU signed between the LSFA and NIS, aimed at ensuring that coaches meet international best practices.

Coaches from Lagos were invited to the Football House in Surulere to discuss the new certification process. NIS Registrar Belmond Benson elaborated on the MOU and encouraged coaches to embrace the initiative.

LSFA Chairman Hajji Gafar Liameed praised the Lagos State Government and the Lagos State Sports Commission for their support in enhancing football infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of this partnership and outlined that coaches lacking NIS certification would need to pay N25,000 for training and N5,000 for the license.

The LSFA plans to train, certify, and license over 2,000 coaches in the next two years and aims to collaborate with other Southwest states to standardize coaching licenses across the region.
