Nigerians, especially religious leaders across the board, are calling for transparency from the Federal Government regarding the SAMOA agreement.
This demand comes amid growing public concern about whether the agreement was signed and calls for the signed document to be made available to the public.
This request follows threats of legal action against Daily Trust for reporting on the matter.
Tracing the history back to 2014, during former President Goodluck Jonathan's administration, it is noted that he refused to sign the same agreement.
At that time, the agreement promised him a return ticket to the presidency, but he declined to sign, a decision that eventually cost him.
Religious leaders and citizens alike insist that, instead of issuing threats, the Federal Government should provide clarity and transparency. "We are not going to spread fake news about the SAMOA agreement," an official stated, emphasizing the importance of accurate information.
In response to the controversy, it is advised that the Ministers of Information, Budget, and Foreign Affairs, along with any other minister involved in the agreement, should hold a press conference to address the issue comprehensively. Such a move would provide clear information and settle the matter once and for all, restoring public confidence.
Nigerians believe that the SAMOA agreement, being of national interest, should be treated as public property. Transparency and accountability are essential to ensure that the public is informed and that trust in government actions is maintained.
