In a significant move, President Bola Tinubu has approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for Nigerian workers and pledged to review the national minimum wage law every three years.
The President made this announcement during a meeting with the leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday in Abuja, marking the second meeting in a week between the parties.
President Tinubu also committed to exploring ways to support the private sector and sub-national entities in meeting the new wage requirements.
Additionally, he vowed to use his discretionary powers to address the demands of university unions seeking payment of their unpaid four months' salaries.
Labour leaders lauded President Tinubu for his "fatherly gesture" and expressed optimism about the positive impact of these measures on Nigerian workers.
