Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has advised unions, groups, and individuals planning to participate in the upcoming nationwide protest on August 1st, 2024, to reconsider their plans and present their grievances to the government instead.
The governor made this call after a Mass at the Government House Chapel in Makurdi on Sunday, July 28th, 2024.
The protest, scheduled for August 1st, is being organized by unidentified groups across the country who are protesting against hardship and perceived bad governance.
However, Governor Alia has emphasized the need to postpone the protest in order to give the government an opportunity to address the issues at hand.
He commended the State Commissioner of Police and the Department of State Services for engaging union leaders and groups in discussions to discourage their participation in the protest.
The governor also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support of Benue State.
Regarding the insecurity in Ukum Area of the State, Governor Alia acknowledged the unfortunate situation and assured that a Commission of Inquiry has been established to investigate the matter.
He called on the people to prioritize peace and unity in the state, blaming external influences for the ongoing militia attacks.
The Governor promised to address the insecurity issues in the state and praised the efforts of security personnel in maintaining peace.
He also appreciated the prayers organized by the Government House Chapel for the government and people of Benue State.
Overall, Governor Alia reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his mandate and urged all citizens to prioritize the security and well-being of the state.
