Bauchi Postpones Local Government Elections to August 17

Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has shifted further the date for the planned local government chairmen and councilors elections.

Executive Chairman of BASIEC, Ahmad Makama, in a statement made available to journalists, said the initial plan to hold the elections on August 10 this year could not be sustained due some reasons, which he did not disclose.

He said the elections will now take place on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
It would be recalled that Bauchi State conducted local government elections in October, 2020 where the rulling party in the state, PDP, won all chairmen and councilors seats.

Since then, all the 20 local government chairmen and deputies in Bauchi were being appointed as caretaking committee chairmen at different intervals. Currently, all the crop of chairmen and deputies were appointed by Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad of the state.

Makama called on political parties and other stakeholders to note the new adjustment and tidy internal mechanisms for the new date. END
