The Synod of All Nations Evangelism on Saturday appealed to the Federal Government (FG) to take deliberate steps to genuinely alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians and give them a better standard of living.
This is contained in a communique issued by the Chairman of the synod, Archbishop Yimam Orkwar in Makurdi.
According to the communique, Nigerians are groaning under the heavy burden to survive the present economic realities and FG must take deliberate steps to genuinely alleviate their sufferings and give them a better standard of living.
It further stated that synod viewed the efforts by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to enact a law to address the prolonged conflict between farmers and herders as a welcome development.
It called on well-meaning Nigerians to support their effort, stating that a ban on open grazing and provision of ranches and establishment of a commission to regulate and control of ranches was overdue and the assignment should be handled with every sense of patriotism, equity and fairness.
It stated that in the face of current agitation for restructuring in the Nigerian Federation, Synod warns that Nigerians at all levels, especially the political class should not allow sectional interests to override their judgement but sought for a balance so that the interests and concerns of different sections of the federation would be addressed reasonably.
It further stated that synod passionately appealed to government to as a matter of urgent concern, look into the condition of over 2 million Benue indigenes currently taking refuge in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camps in several Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the State and other Nigerians who were in similar situations in other states of the federation.
"These set of Nigerians have been in very difficult living conditions in the last seven years or more, and are entitled to better living conditions in their ancestral homes.
"Synod is saddened by the brutal murder of six of her members in the Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue by Fulani herdsmen/bandits and calls on government to rise to her responsibility of securing the lives and property of her citizens.
"Security is paramount as infrastructural development would be meaningful only when citizens are alive to enjoy the infrastructure provided," it stated.
It stated that the synod appreciated the efforts at combating the menace of armed bandits in the Sankera axis of the state by the present government in the state and urged it to intensify efforts and strengthen the security architecture in the area.
