The newly elected chairman Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Minna Branch Barrister Isyaku Barau, has reiterated his administration readiness to pursue the independence of Judiciary during his two years tenure.
He noted that the Indepence of the Judiciary will bring justice closer to the citizens at affordable price and will build confidence on the common man whose last hope is the Judiciary.
According to the legal practitioner, absence of the Judiciary independence has grossly affected the smooth and Speedy administration of justice insisting that his administration will continue to echo his voice in ensuring the Independence of the third arm of government.
Speaking in an exclusive Interview with newsmen in Minna at the weekend Isyaku Barau explained that the Judiciary as the last hope of the vulnerables and the common man, the need for its independence should not for any reason be Compromise adding that it will be a front burner of his two years tenure in the NBA Minna Branch.
" The Independence of the Judiciary, should not be Compromised by any critical stakeholders in the administration of our Justice system.
" As the NBA Chairman in Minna , I will make it a front burner of my tenure. This will bring justice closer to the less Privilege that see the Judiciary as his last hope and I will pursue it with all deserving vigours during my two year tenure as Chairman he stated.
He noted with concern the deliberate refusal of the executive to accord the Judiciary its Constitutional independence as enshrined in section 121 of the 1999 Constitution as amended describing the trend as unacceptable
Lack of the Judiciary independence, according to the NBA Chairman has made the citizens to lost Confidence on the Judiciary stressing the needs for the executive to as a matter of Constitutional Provision to allow the third arm of the government to operate within the ambit of the law as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
Speaking further, Barrister Barau, said his administration will continue to make human right of the citizens his leadership priority and ensure that justice is given to all manner of people regardless of his or her status in the society adding that justice is the Constitutional right of the citizens.
" Justice is for all citizens no matter the status of the individual in the society. want to disabuse the impression already created that justice is for the rich.
" Let me disabuse the impression already created that justice is for particular individuals in society.Is not so justice is for all citizens and all manner of persons are entitled for Justice." he asserted.
He then appealed to Nigerians to continue to have confidence on our Judiciary and respect the constituent authority at all times warning that they should avoid taking law into their hands " as the law is not a respected of any body the law will be visited on any persons that go against it"
