In the Akurba community of Lafia Local Government Area, a remarkable young woman is making a significant impact on public health. Gift Dimka, a 19-year-old participant in the Adolescents and Young People (AYP) Project, supported by the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN), is conducting HIV testing for adolescent girls in her community.
Gift's journey began with no prior knowledge of HIV. However, after engaging in HIV prevention service sessions, her curiosity and determination led her to volunteer for screening and undergo training for self-testing.
This training has empowered her to extend her knowledge and skills to others, marking a pivotal transformation in her life and the lives of many others.
Today, Gift Dimka is proficient in conducting HIV tests for other adolescent girls, demonstrating not only her personal growth but also her unwavering commitment to enhancing the health and well-being of her community. Her story is a testament to the power of education and the impact of community-driven health initiatives.
