In response to the pressing needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and communities affected by armed herdsmen, the Benue State Government, through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has launched a comprehensive distribution of essential food and non-food items.
The Acting Executive Secretary of Benue SEMA, representing Governor Alia's commitment to the welfare of displaced populations, oversaw the distribution exercise at the Benue SEMA headquarters in Makurdi on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024.
Speaking to reporters, the Acting SEMA boss outlined the targeted areas for relief distribution, including IDP camps and recently affected communities such as Kwande, Katsina-Ala, Ukum, Apa, Okpokwu, Agatu, and Guma.
This initiative, part of Governor Alia's ongoing efforts, underscores the state's commitment to alleviating the suffering of IDPs, particularly during the Easter period. Various food items, including rice, beans, maize, garri, cooking oil, sugar, salt, and noodles, along with non-food items like mattresses, detergents, and soap, are being distributed to address immediate needs.
The public relations officer of Benue SEMA, Tema Ager, emphasized the significance of Governor Alia's consistent support for IDPs and assured that all relief materials would reach those in need before the Easter celebration.
